A NEW GARDENING YEAR!

Hello everyone!  Well here we are again at the start of a new gardening year which is always very exciting.  Enclosed is your new schedule.  Please, please take time to read it thoroughly – including what look like the boring bits – I promise you will find a wealth of information and helpful hints for exhibiting.  We have so often heard the same questions – for instance “why don’t we ask the exhibitors to name the variety of their exhibit”.  Well, for the last thirty years to my knowledge we have done just that – it’s on page 5 of the schedule under – you guessed it – Hints for Exhibitors!

We would also urge you to check and double check on the number of stems, blooms, fruits, vegetables etc.  If it says six then seven will not be better it will just be disqualified as “Not According to Schedule” - the dreaded “NAS” we sometimes see on the entry card.  It is so upsetting for us to see a wonderful exhibit disqualified.  Do allow yourself time to stage your exhibits – you have two hours from 9-11am – get there early – I’m usually on my lonesome until about

9.30 and then there is a mad panic from 10am to 11am!  It takes time for judging and then for us to work out the prize winners and we usually only just finish as the show opens.

150 YEARS and STILL GROWING
STRONG . . . BUT ONLY JUST!
YOUR SOCIETY NEEDS YOU!

Not ready to commit to joining the Committee?

Why not get a flavour of what fun it is to help this amazing Society.

Come along and help set up or clear away at one of our shows, help with the teas or on one of the other stalls.

Just to make it a bit easier you can consider the relevant choices below and send to the Secretary or give her a call and have a chat and see how you can help this Society grow even stronger.

DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

This is the formal notification of the AGM of the Society which will be at 2.30pm on 19 March, 2016 at the Highgate Society, 10a South Grove, N6 6BS.  You will see that we have a change of date and time. We are, once again, trying a Saturday afternoon in the hope that more members will attend.  As last year, to cut down on expenses (and save trees!), we will not be sending a separate notice of meeting and agenda, they will be available at the meeting together with the 2015 minutes and audited accounts.  If you would like copies in advance please contact the Secretary. Apart from the usual agenda items we will be discussing the future of the Society, so it is very important that you attend the meeting.

Show dates for 2016 are 2 April, 16 July and 17 September.  Fair in the Square is on 11 June.
