DATES FOR YOUR DIARY

This is the formal notification of the AGM of the Society which will be at 2.30pm on 17 March, 2018 at the Highgate Society, 10a South Grove, N6 6BS. Once again we have chosen a Saturday afternoon which we hope will encourage more members to attend and have their say as well as to meet our new committee members.  As last year, to cut down on expenses (and save trees!), we will not be sending a separate notice of meeting and agenda, they will be available at the meeting together with the 2017 minutes and audited accounts.  If you would like copies in advance please contact the Secretary.

Show dates for 2018 are 14 April, 14 July and 8 September. Fair in the Square is on 16 June.  More diary dates are in your 2018 schedule.  Do take time to look at the categories for the Spring Show – it will be upon us before we know it!

CHAIRMAN’S CHAT

As I write, the weather outside is dull and miserable so it is rather nice to think about the year ahead which we hope will give us some sunny days for gardening.

As you will remember, we called a special meeting to discuss the future of the Society and I was pleased that the meeting went well and has given us four new committee members; we now feel that HHS is hopefully safe for the foreseeable future.

Listening to feedback from members we hope to arrange events so our members can meet one another more often, I do ask members to support any event that may be arranged.

Another important matter which our Secretary, Roxane, has mentioned is items for our produce stall.  I am afraid we became rather dependent on Lois Allender - a long-standing committee member who moved to Hampshire a few years ago but since has been providing 90% of the produce sold. Of course, that has meant a journey from Hampshire and back on show days and she now feels that the time has come for her to retire.  The Committee and I thank her very much for all she has contributed to the Society.  So it is very important that we can fill the gap for the produce stall, not forgetting cakes for our tea sales.

I wish all members a very successful year and hope you will all try to enter something at the shows as more competition is good for all.

        Alan W. Dallman

AN APPEAL FOR HELPERS

Come along and help set up or clear away at one of our shows, help with the teas or on one of the other stalls.  We also need more donations for our raffle, produce stall (home baking, preserves, pickles and any “glut” you have later in the season!), plants stall (plant a few extra seeds or pot up split perennials for us to sell) and of course we always need cakes for our teas.

If you can help out give Roxane a call or write with your name and contact details to: The Secretary, 26 Ashmount Road, London N19 3BJ Tel. 020 7263 6831 or you can send an email info@highgatehorticulturalsociety.org.uk
